When you look into still water you see a reflection. Let's imagine that Malala is the water and we are her reflection. What will be seen? How can we, as youth in the United States, support a mission of tolerance, courage, and global education?
BEING A VOICE FOR THE MARGINALIZED- LET'S SUPPORT: a) PEARLS for Teen Girls- What is PEARLS about? PEARLS is rapidly becoming known among African American and Latina girls in the inner city Milwaukee community as “the program” for girls’ self development. The program provides girls with a safe place, skill development, and self-esteem building that leads to better life choices and an opportunity to realize their full potential. According to the Office of Adolescent Health, "in 2013, there were 26.6 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15-19, or 274,641 babies born to females in this age group. Nearly eighty-nine percent of these births occurred outside of marriage." TCP is an organization that addresses needs of teen parents and his/her children. Their mission is to partner with teen parents and build individual/household self-sufficiency. This is achieved through primary focus on the areas of education, employment, and pregnancy prevention/family planning.
