Malala's Legacy
Think of this: what would life be like for African Americans today if Martin Luther King Jr. had not been the leader of the Civil Rights Movement? What would life be like today if Rosa Parks never sat in the front of the bus? All of these courageous acts were done for a cause much greater than themselves. Their legacy changed hearts; therefor laws. Malala stood up in her bus because, like Rosa Parks, someone had to say, no more.
Malala could have never known this was to be her legacy, her gift, to humanity. The gunshots fired, were intended to weaken her, in fact, kill her. Instead, those shots made her stronger. They were intended to muffle her voice, yet only made it louder. From generation to generation, Malala's legacy will carry on with each little girl's pencil gliding across the page and with each pair of eyes that behold great literature. And her father, Ziauddin, continues to be by her side. His legacy is very much a part of Malala's; they both want to see a fully educated Pakistan where both girls and boys sit at the table.
What Malala will leave behind is a true gift not only for Pakistan, but for the entire world. Her legacy will be the inspiration and courage to learn and succeed. Most importantly, the legal right to do so. Malala Yousafzai, jani, you are a true hero and you have left us an inspiring legacy.
Jani means, "dear one".
